Asase Ye Duru
Asase Ye Duru literally means, “The Earth has weight.” Asase means Earth. Duru means Heavy. The Earth exerts a gravitational pull which keeps us here as well as our moon and satellites circling the planet. But this Adinkra Symbol means more than that. The earth is important for our life, livelihood and sustenance. This symbol represents the divinity of mother Earth and the importance of the Earth in sustaining life.
Olorun Skin’s bar soap was named to remind people of this Adinkra symbol. Soap was created in the past when ashes from fire mixed with water and the leftover lard (or fat) from the animals that were eaten. The result became what people have used to clean their bodies and personal belongings. Today, we understand that the ashes produce Potassium or Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) and soap is created when these chemicals are combined with fats.
Life and all that we have is because of the Earth. We have been careless and selfish in our treatment of our home. The effects of the carelessness are evident in the litter in the oceans and on land, the smog and smoke in the air, and the resources that are being used for our own personal use. Our planet and the animals we share it with should be respected, regardless of whether someone believes that climate change is real. It is important to not only remember the sovereignty of our planet, but that we must care and protect it.
We decide the fate of our future on this planet. We decide this by the choices we make. We can choose to reduce, reuse and recycle the items that we use. We can make a conscious effort to use products that are made with natural ingredients and that limit the impact of our resources. We can choose to fix or repair instead of buying new. We can find little (or big) things every day that can lower our carbon footprint. RH Fafanto, LLC’s goal is to use fair trade ingredients and help people manufacturing the ingredients and the products. We want to make a positive impact on our world.
We all are the keepers of this Earth. It’s the only one that we have. The animals and people are the only ones that we know exist. Our home is special. So, remember as you cleanse with Asase Ye Duru soap, the Earth has weight!
